Hi, my name is Paul Hummer. I am 25 years old. I live in northern Colorado with my beautiful wife, and one puppy. I've used Linux exclusively since Red Hat 5 (not RHEL 5). While I've tried many other operating systems since then, I haven't found anything that compares to linux.
When I was 11, I experienced my first interaction with programming. I downloaded a copy of Visual Basic 3 (which my dad was quick to teach me was illegal), and started writing apps to use on AOL, i.e. scrollers, chat macros, punter/antipunter combinations, etc. That got me into a world that I have come to call "home." I have since been immersed in more "free as in freedom" languages, and less in the proprietary VB land. If I could choose, I would write in C, python, and javascript for the rest of my life. I don't think there's much more to need.
I am a flat out geek, and have interest in all facets of technology. I appreciate a good hardware hack just as much as a good software hack. I'm currently working on a project I call the Mobile Hacker Project, which will eventually be a mobile command unit that I can take to tech conferences. As the project develops, I'll post more about it, including schematics for war driving, all the sensors, etc.
As far as other projects go, I'm all over the place. I'm currently the maintainer of pylirc2, keeping it updated against the most recent versions of python and lirc. I took on that project because I was trying to get remote control support into Entertainer, and linux based media center project that I actively work on as well. I've also always got little pet projects going on, and if any of them become anything of consequence, I'll post about them.
I work as an independent contractor and technical consultant for a variety of companies under the company Iron Lion Software And Consulting. Most of the work I generate is with web startups and heavily web based businesses. If you'd like to know more about my services, feel free to contact me.
This site is Django powered. I'm a big python buff, and I really like working in Django, participating in sprints, and doing most of my experimentation work in Django.
